CROCHET MAKES A COMEBACK

Ever since we photographed the cover of our Spring 2012 magazine (on sale now), featuring a wedding gown with beautiful crochet detailing by Vesselina Pentcheva, we’ve been smitten by this time-treasured craft. And it seems we’re not alone. One brief internet search confirms that wedding designers, decorators and DIY brides are embracing the trend, using crochet to create a variety of contemporary, vintage and boho looks. The secret to keeping it stylish of course (and not in any way “grannified”) is to be selective about where you use it. With crochet, the rule is definitely: less is more!

Chic ideas include having a few crochet elements on your wedding gown (it makes for stunning back detail) or a short, completely crocheted dress. Crochet shawls and fascinators are tasteful too.On the decor side, crochet adds romantic detailing to ring pillows and place settings, and makes cute, quirky cake toppers and bunting. It also looks fabulous on tables (line a row of doilies down the middle of a wooden table for a fashionable, natural look) and as a cover for jam jar lanterns and pebbles (turn the latter into unique centrepieces or wedding favours).
