DESIGNER COUNSEL

With all their experience designing wedding dresses, fashion designers are often the most important source of advice and inspiration for a bride.

ABIGAIL BETZ

Tell us about the look and feel of this dress? It`s a follow through from last season`s collection with natural colours and creams, with an emphasis on the back of the dress. I wanted a 1920`s feel and that`s where the empire line comes in. The fabric is mesh lace with silk underneath. Bridal wear is a fashionable item and needs to be reworked according to the season. This is one of the new pieces in our winter collection.

I always tell the bride…I won`t be copying anything; it has to be uniquely Abigail Betz. Trust me, you`re in good hands.

MARIANNE FASSLER

Tell us about the look and feel of this dress? My wedding dresses are different from the traditional dresses. I like details and texture, so I use exquisite fabrics like silk tulles, French laces and soft fabrics. With this dress, the bride was my inspiration; she knew my particular style and wanted that reflected in her dress.

I always tell the bride… that she ultimately makes the final choice. She needs to feel comfortable with the dress and the designer she chooses. I would like her to leave my studio feeling confident and happy with her choice.

SPERO VILLIOTI

Tell us about the look and feel of this dress? The inspiration, not only for the dress but for the whole collection, was organics, nature and a fairy-like feel, so it had to be delicate and soft. I used silver and white tulle with cut up ruffles and beading. My own style is glamorous, sophisticated and show-stopping, and that shows in the dress.

I always tell the bride… that she has to make sure that`s what she wants or she`ll end up hiding under a table.

TIAAN NAGEL

Tell us about the look and feel of this dress? I was inspired by architecture and structure. The dress is made of silk paper taffeta which is light and reminds me of paper origami. I wanted a contemporary, light structure that explores volume.

I always tell the bride… stay true to yourself, you can be comfortable yet contemporary.
