With New Year’s Eve less than three weeks away, we’ve been scouting ideas for stylish, late-night celebrations. But few have captured our imaginations more so than the dark, dramatic Midnight Marriage event created for our latest issue by decor expert Stefan Norval of Afresh Event & Design. Although intended as a sophisticated wedding theme for glamorous urbanites, the rich jewel hues and lavish detailing he used are perfect for standout occasions, including birthdays.

To create an impact after dark, Stefan suggests using midnight blues and violet purples – both rising wedding favourites – mixed with dirty pinks for depth. Clever mood lighting is crucial, he says, as are quality table decor accessories such as crystal glassware (filled with Moët, of course), silverware and structural flowers including arum lilies and orchids. Once the scene has been set, all that’s left is for you to dress to impress and enjoy!
